Book Review: Dark Mind by Jennifer Chase - eBook only $2.99 on Amazon!!

Dark Mind (Emily Stone Series)

First let me mention that Dark Mind is book 3 in the Emily Stone Series (Book 1 - Compulsion and Book 2 - Dead Game).  I had not read books 1 and 2 when I read Dark Mind.  Ms. Chase does a wonderful job at giving you the back story, so even though I had not read the first two it was still easy to follow.  In Dark Mind, Emily Stone takes matters into her own hands when children are kidnapped and transported to Hawaii in a child sex trafficing ring.  She and boyfriend Rick head to Hawaii on the hunt for the criminals.  However, once in Hawaii, a serial killer strikes.  Hoping to just catch a breather and have some time to think, Emily Stone finds herself, once again, in the middle of a nasty case.  Everytime her and her partners think that they have a lead, the trail gets turned upside down again.  Between guns, marajuana growers, old island men, and badged law enforcement, will Emily be able to solve the murders before she finds herself the next victim?

I appreciated the detail Ms. Chase went into describing the scenery and characters.  I love to be able to see in my head what the characters and surroundings look like, and I did not find myself having to fill in the blanks.  There are plenty of twists and turns in this book to keep you on your toes.  Every time I thought I had the suspect nailed, the next thing would happen that would throw me off!  Ms. Chase had been put on my "author's to watch" list to keep track of her new book releases.  I will go back and read Compulsion and Dead Game, I am very interested to find out more about Emily Stone's back life.  I'm sure I will follow those two up with a reread of Dark Mind.

Amazon currently has Dark Mind available for Kindle for $2.99 (remember, as always, prices on Amazon change frequently!!)

Synopsis (from author):
A Serial Killer Plagues an Island Paradise

Vigilante detective Emily Stone continues her covert pursuits to find serial killers and child abductors, all under the radar while shadowing police investigations.

Emily searches for an abducted nine-year-old girl taken by ruthless and enterprising slave brokers. Following the clues from California to the garden island of Kauai, she begins to piece together the evidence and ventures deep into the jungle.

It doesn’t take long before Emily is thrown into the middle of murder, mayhem, and conspiracy. Locals aren’t talking as a serial killer now stalks the island, taking women in a brutal frenzy of ancient superstitions and folklore. Local cops are unprepared for what lies ahead. In a race against the clock, Emily and her team must identify the killer before time runs out.
